Description:

The architectural form of the building was inspired by the traditions of Bulgarian national architecture. At the very same time, the project matches successfully the town-planning context. Modern interpretation of the Bulgarian architectural tradition has been sought both with regard to the selection of materials used and in the spatial principles of internal organization of the entire consular complex. The individual buildings that form the complex have 2 or 3 floors, and regardless of their diverse functions, coexist in a unity of harmony. While the administrative building is oriented towards the future pedestrian street eading to the Municipal House of Edirne, which is under construction, the residence and the reception hall are situated around an internal courtyard with an official approach for pedestrians and cars. The yard will have a flagging floor with grass joints to remind of the old cobblestone pavements. The entrance to the hall and the residence of the Consul General are marked and emphasized by grassed timber pergolas that bear resemblance to the vine-arbors. Materials used in the treatment of facades are materials natural and traditional for Bulgarian architecture: wood, stone, plaster. The design expresses the necessary representative appearance highlighted in the approach to the reception hall with a colonnade and pergolas, yet having no monumental and pompous emanation. A tranquil and picturesque character has been sought within the scale of the surrounding town structures. The climatic peculiarities of the region have also been taken into consideration.
